What we do
We have decided to expand our rescue efforts to allow for owner surrenders. Please... if you have months to find a good home for your horse, use us a last last resort. We are here for the owners who for whatever reason must find a home in a matter of days or weeks. We do not charge to take an animal although donations are always appreciated (cash, grain, hay, tack, blankets, etc..). We are not a 501 (c) non profit yet, although we are in the process, so donations are not tax deductible at this time.We are accepting any breed, age, temperment, and size but please NO stallions or major health problems at this time. I can help you find some rescues who may be able to help in those cases. We will not judge you if you surrender a thin horse, just please consider a rescue before it gets to that point.
If you have a horse you are interested in surrendering please call or email us with some information about the animal, we will then respond to you whether or not we have room to take him/her. If we have room we will work out transportation arrangements. It's always best if the owner can bring the horse to us, but if that's not possible we can trailer for a fee + fuel costs, normally 1.00 per loaded mile but this can change depending on distance and gas prices. You now need to start filling out the surrender form if you haven't already. Please bring it along when you bring the horse, or have it ready when we pick the horse up. Please Do Not sign the form until you hand the horse over to us. Supply all health records (horse MUST have a current coggins), and registration papers (if available) with the horse. Once we have the horse and he/she has had a few days to settle in we will do all necessary vet and farrier work. We will then do any training needed for riding or behavior issues he/she may have. Only after we feel comfortable that we know everything that we can about the horse will he/she will be placed for adoption. If we cannot find a good home we may donate to another more suitable rescue or a theraputic riding program (Shining Stars in Gettysburg, PA), depending on the horse.Anyone who adopts from us will have a humane background check run as well as references checked (we can by all rights do this, and we will). We do NOT retain ownership of the horse, however, a contract must be signed stating the horse may never be sold, given to, or sold at a dealer/broker/or auction. I will try to put updates on the rehoming success stories page but can only do what time allows for. We also have kids, jobs, and dogs that we have rescued.Of course I cannot promise that at some point a horse may not slip through the system but I can do my best to keep it from happening. If you have any questions please feel free to email us. I'm happy to supply you with our vet and farrier's phone numbers.
